Dalila Dalléas Bouzar

Dalila Dalléas Bouzar's artistic creation mainly concentrates on painting. This medium allows her to develop works on the material itself and, at the same time, to express herself through various topics and motives like figures (self-portraits, monsters, women lying in the grass..) and spaces (landscapes, forests, sky, abstract rooms).

Algerian Dalila Dalléas Bouzar has made it her task to reach under the surface. Using the example of Algeria she studies the human capability of forgetting. Through paintings, drawings and video installations Dalila Dalléas Bouzar explores the traumata that lead to surpression and rejection of memories, a main constituent of this society. On the one hand, her works are portraits of pictures  which she found that relate to the Algerian war of independence and the wars of the 1990s. On the other hand her works are abstract meanings of signs and symbols as well as de-contextualizations of myths relating to these symbols.
